A grade 2 trail where a grade 2 shouldn’t go
Queenstown Trails CEO Mark ‘Willy’ Williams chose Elevate for this trail as it was a very challenging alignment through steep bluffs and tight gully’s down to an abandoned gold mining tunnel. No one else could find a route that would be suitable for the grade 2 users that would want to check out the tunnel.
After lots of scoping we decided that we could get it done but we would need to rock stack retaining walls. We worked with local rock stacking pro Jeremy Lyttle to make epic switchbacks that would stand the test of time and tame the steep gradient of the area.
The trail is incredibly popular and an awesome addition to the Queenstown Trails network.
